Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu to Visit India in October to Strengthen Bilateral Relations
Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will visit India from October 6 to 10 at the invitation of President Droupadi Murmu. The visit will include meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior officials, business engagements in Mumbai and Bengaluru, and discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and regional partnership.
During the visit, President Muizzu is scheduled to hold high-level discussions with President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other senior Indian officials. The meetings are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation across key sectors and further enhancing the strategic partnership between India and the Maldives.
In a statement issued by the President’s Office in Male, the Maldivian government reiterated its commitment to deepening collaboration with India and emphasized that strong relations with New Delhi remain vital for the Maldives’ growth and development. The statement highlighted the importance of continued engagement and cooperation between the two nations.
As part of his itinerary, President Muizzu will also travel to Mumbai and Bengaluru, where he is expected to participate in business engagements aimed at promoting economic cooperation and investment opportunities.
Earlier this year, President Muizzu attended the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also met the Indian leader on the sidelines of the COP28 summit, reflecting ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the forthcoming visit underlines India’s commitment to its relationship with the Maldives, particularly in the wake of recent strains in bilateral ties. The ministry noted that India continues to play a crucial role in providing development assistance to the island nation, contributing significantly to the welfare and livelihoods of its people.
At the regional level, India has consistently served as a key partner in the neighbourhood, acting as a first responder during crises and a net security provider. President Muizzu’s visit is expected to further reinforce cooperation and strengthen the longstanding partnership between India and the Maldives at both bilateral and regional levels.
